Erik Meijer leads an small incubation team in Microsoft SQL server division where amongst other things he works on democratizing programming the Cloud and collaborates with the Microsoft Visual C# and the Microsoft Visual Basic language design teams on data integration in programming languages (LINQ). Prior to joining Microsoft he was an associate professor at UtrechtUniversity and adjunct professor at the Oregon Graduate Institute.
LINQ
Do you need to work with XML, but find it far too hard to work with as a developer? Then use LINQ to XML, a modernized in-memory XML programming API that provides both DOM and XQuery/XPath-like functionality. Do you need to work with relational data, but find it far too hard to work with as a developer? Then use LINQ to SQL, a modernized object-relational mapping technology that provides SQL-like CRUD functionality. Do you need to work with in-memory data, but find it far too hard to work with as a developer? Then use LINQ to Objects, a standard library of query operators that provides queries over arbitrary in-memory collections. Each of the LINQ components is designed from the ground up to take advantage of the latest .NET Framework language innovations, in particular query comprehensions, anonymous types, object initializers, lambda expression, type inference, and extension methods. This provides programmers with a hereto unmatched consistent programming experience across the different LINQ-enabled data access technologies. Come see how LINQ makes next release of Visual Studio the best product ever for working with any form of data.
