How eRCP and MIDP Application models stack up against Android and Web 2.0 Development

The last year in mobile development has seen incredible strides in the availability of devices capable of running Rich Client applications. eRCP has been around for over 2 years, the mobile web was changed with the introduction last year of the iPhone and recently Android was announced. In addition to these new runtime platforms, the Mobile Information Device Profile 2.0 has a significant foothold on mobile phones. This talk will highlight the differences between the Mobile Rich Client development models based on Eclipse eRCP, the Android platform and MIDP 2.0. Does Web 2.0 programming offer something none of these models provide? Using examples, the audience will come away with an understanding of how each model can be used, the capabilities, benefits and pitfalls of each approach. You should attend this talk if you're either curious about Mobile development or if you've got the next silver bullet mobile application idea and want to know which Rich Client model you should use.

Additional Information:

The presentation walks through an application developed from the ground up using Eclipse tooling.  For each of the runtime environments, the application was coded to present a similar feeling presentation style but using the components and API available from the specific application model.  Additionally, a Web 2.0 (or WebKit / iPhone) based implementation was developed using AJAX fundamentals.
