Erlang Logo
Erlang/OTP is an Open Source technology released by Ericsson AB in 1998. It was invented to address Speed to Market (up to 80% less code than Java), Scalability (Supports true concurrency and all current multicore processors unlike Java and C++), Distributed Fault Tolerant Systems (Runs on a virtual machine that can run on most popular operating systems like Java) and Hot Code Swapping (upgrading of systems without stopping them).

Adoption of Erlang is now growing exponentially with over 10,000 downloads per month from Erlang.org. There are an estimated 1 million users worldwide and several thousand companies using it directly or indirectly. Hundreds of millions of users enjoy its benefits when the use telephones in UK and China, chat on Facebook or Nasza Klasa, or collect pensions in South Africa. Typical examples of systems with these requirements can be found in telecoms, banking, finance, health, schools, transport and logistics.
Erlang Training & Consulting Ltd was founded in 1999, soon after Erlang/OTP was released as open source, and is today the leader in training, certification, consultancy, contracting, system development and support services for users of Erlang/OTP dependent systems. The main market for its services is companies that have embraced the open source philosophy (Linux, mySQL, to name but a few). A common denominator for the systems is that they tend to be distributed, demand reliability and are transactional.
